Root Canal Therapy
If you ever experience a toothache so bad that caused you sleepless nights and a headache among other signs and symptoms, chances are you have a root canal infection.
Anecdotally, apart from childbirth and kidney stones, a root canal infection is one the worst pains one can experience.
Most of the time, root canal infection is caused by bacteria infecting the nerves and blood vessels in the tooth pulp because of extensive tooth decay or cracks in the tooth. The good news that as long as the affected tooth is not beyond salvage, root canal treatment can be done to preserve the tooth. Otherwise, it may have to be extracted.
Root canal treatment involves initially removing all the infected and dead tissues in the tooth pulp and root canals. The narrow root canals are then filed to remove bacteria, straighten their curvature and to increase their calibre. After the entire pulp chamber and root canal complex are disinfected and rendered infection free, the root canals are then filled and sealed by a procedure known as obturation.
To render the tooth functional again so that it bear the load of daily mastication, a crown is strongly recommended. At our clinic, we are committed to save every root canal infected tooth by root canal treatment unless prognosis is poor.
